20D coolant drills are used when hole depth makes external coolant unreliable and chip evacuation becomes the main production risk.

20D coolant drills are internal coolant carbide drills designed for holes around twenty times the drill diameter. At this depth, the tool is no longer just a drill bit; it becomes a drilling system that depends on runout, pilot strategy, coolant pressure, chip shape, coating and machine stability.

What makes 20D drilling different

  • External coolant cannot reliably reach the drill point.
  • Small runout at the holder can become large error at depth.
  • Chip packing can break the drill before tool wear is visible.
  • A pilot hole or stable entry condition may be needed for long tools.
  • Coolant filtration matters because small coolant holes can clog.
