Mould cooling channels often need long coolant-through carbide drills because depth, straightness and chip evacuation decide whether the channel can be machined reliably.

Coolant drills for moulds are used to machine cooling channels, ejector-related holes, manifold passages and long holes in mold bases. In mould steel, the problem is usually not only hardness; it is the combination of long reach, chip evacuation, straightness and surface quality inside the channel.
